Pacific Crest Trail?

I'm really really bored with my current job as a Technical Support Engineer with a major semiconductor capital equipment manufacturer even though I have only been with this company for nine-months. Just a cog in the wheel, supporting a product that will not have any further development done on it.

No further development means no new product development meaning boredom ... identified technical and training issues (aka problems) are just brushed under the rug. The excuse is that "there will be no further development of this product"

Why then was I hired when every other word out of my mouth during the interviews was "new product development"

Thoughts of resigning so that I can either:
(1) prepare for a Pacific Crest Trail hike starting this spring
(2) start doing the Masters Degree (MBA? MSEE?) ... ooops I may have already missed all the application deadlines
(3) search for a new product development job on a full-time basis at a smaller company with a "sense of urgency" in their culture
